Request for Local Law Enforcement.

Subject: Application of Residential Parking Permit Policy

Dear City of Yarra,

As a concerned resident, I am writing to highlight the growing issue of derelict and long-standing, undriven vehicles across our neighbourhood. Parking spaces are being occupied by cars that are clearly not in a roadworthy state or which have not moved in a very long time. The Parking Permit Policy says that permits are issued at Council's discretion and are intended for roadworthy vehicles. In practice, there appears to be situations where this is not being applied consistently.

Additionally, I am concerned that the lack of enforcement against these vehicles is degrading the amenity of our neighbourhood.

I am requesting that Council ensure its existing policies and local laws are applied fairly and consistently, and that appropriate enforcement action is taken in circumstances where vehicles are occupying residential parking for extended periods despite appearing undrivable or not in active use.

A consistent and clear approach helps ensure the intrgrity of the parking system we all pay for, and ensures it remains fair and accessible for all of us.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Subject: Support Needed: Resident Call for Enforcement of Derelict Vehicle Laws

Dear Cr. [Councillor Name],

I'm a resident of the City of Yarra and I'm concerned about broken down, derelict or undrivable vehicles being left long-term in residential parking areas in our neighbourhood.

Street parking is already scarce, and residents pay for permits without any guarantee of finding a space. It feels unfair when vehicles that appear not to be roadworthy, or are being used as long-term storage for personal belongings are allowed to occupy public parking spaces indefinitely.

Yarra's Parking Permit Policy says permits are issued at Council's discretion only and says that vehicles must be both registered and in a roadworthy state, however, it appears Council is not consistently enforcing this policy. I'm asking you to support clearer enforcement of this policy and any amendment that may be needed to ensure derelict, undrivable or vehicles used for long-term storage are not issued or renewed parking permits.

Could you please raise this with Council, and will you support an amendment to the Parking Permit Policy?

Kind Regards,
